Faro City Council requalifies fountains in the municipality

The Faro City Council is going to requalify several ornamental fountains in the municipality through a contract signed with the company Urbiágua, priced at 57,280 euros, plus VAT. The intervention includes the fountains at Praça de Tânger, Largo Pé da Cruz, Largo do Povo – Largo da Bica in Montenegro and Jardim da Alameda, where four fountains and the atomization system will be worked on. The works also include preventive maintenance for a period of one year.

The execution period is 455 days and the equipment had been deactivated for several years due to lack of conditions. The municipality justifies the intervention with the need to ensure the good state of conservation, safety and functionality of the ornamental fountains.

The Algarve region was subject to restrictions on the use of water in public spaces due to scarcity caused by drought, which makes the impact of this intervention relevant. The municipal council states that the requalification will allow the restoration of the dignity of public spaces and have a cooling effect on ambient temperature during periods of greater heat.

A Câmara de Faro vai requalificar várias fontes ornamentais do concelho, ao abrigo de um contrato celebrado na terça-feira com a Sociedade Urbiágua, orçado em 57.280 euros, mais IVA, anunciou hoje a autarquia.

Segundo a autarquia, vai ser feita a “intervenção nas fontes da Praça de Tânger, do Largo Pé da Cruz, do Largo do Povo – Largo da Bica (Montenegro) e do Jardim da Alameda (quatro fontes e sistema de atomização), bem como a manutenção preventiva a realizar ao longo do período de um ano”, precisou o município num comunicado.

O prazo de execução é de 455 dias e os trabalhos vão “garantir o bom estado de conservação, segurança e funcionalidade destes equipamentos, que estavam desativados há vários anos por falta de condições”, justificou o município do Algarve, região que esteve sujeita a restrições no uso de água em espaços públicos devido à escassez provocada pela seca.

A intervenção vai “repor a dignidade do espaço público e ter um efeito de arrefecimento da temperatura ambiente” durante os períodos em que o calor é mais intenso, justificou o município.
