Pet friendly tourism gains strength in São Paulo resorts

Traveling with pets is no longer an exception in Brazil. A survey by Booking.com conducted in 31 countries revealed that 46% of Brazilians consider pet receptivity when choosing vacation destinations, a rate well above the global average of 31%. When choosing accommodation, 43% of Brazilian travelers make the same consideration.

The Brazilian pet market is one of the largest in the world. According to Abinpet and the Instituto Pet Brasil, the sector moved R$ 75.4 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach nearly R$ 78 billion in 2025. Brazil ranks third among the largest pet markets globally, behind only the United States and China.

The Ministry of Tourism announced for 2026, in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), a national study to map pet friendly tourism in all 26 states and the Federal District.

In São Paulo's tourist resorts, this trend is already materializing in laws, seals and structures designed for travelers accompanied by their pets. Santos, for example, is a pioneer in the state by allowing dogs on beaches since January 2022, being the first city in São Paulo to adopt this practice.
