Gastroenteritis in the Azores "above expected" but norovirus drops on three islands

Gastroenteritis in the Azores is recording levels above expected, according to the Regional Health Authority. The situation has been monitored on the various islands of the archipelago.

Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of norovirus on the islands of São Miguel and Faial. This virus is described as highly contagious and causes acute vomiting and diarrhea.

Despite elevated gastroenteritis levels, the Regional Health Authority observed a decrease in norovirus cases on three islands of the archipelago, which represents a positive sign in the evolution of the situation.
