Cristiano Abreu, a firefighter with the Madeirenses Volunteer Firefighters, discovered he had become a father for the first time during one of the most demanding missions of his career. His daughter was born precisely at the moment he was participating in a rescue operation of a Kazakh tourist that lasted approximately 20 hours.
The operation took place on the Pico Furão trail, in Fajã dos Cortes, in Curral das Freiras, an area of rugged terrain and difficult access on the island of Madeira. The rescue proved particularly complex, requiring a prolonged effort from the members of the corporation.
The moment was celebrated by the remaining firefighters, who gifted Cristiano with a special keepsake to celebrate the arrival of his daughter. The firefighter received the news while continuing to be dedicated to the rescue mission.
Cristiano Abreu is a member of the Madeirenses Volunteer Firefighters, a corporation known for its fundamental role in rescue operations on the island, frequently in difficult conditions and on steep terrain.
