Swimming is not advised at four beaches in the municipality of Espinho, in the district of Aveiro, due to microbiological contamination. The affected beaches are Barra Beach, Esmoriz Beach, Paramos Beach and Silvalde Beach. The decision was made after laboratory analyses that detected elevated levels of bacteria and other microorganisms in the water.
The information was communicated by the Central Regional Health Administration, which is the entity responsible for monitoring the quality of bathing waters in the region. Swimmers are advised to avoid contact with the water at these beaches until new analyses confirm that contamination levels have returned to safe values.
Health authorities recommend that citizens do not frequent these beaches for swimming until further notice. The situation is being closely monitored and new sample collections are planned to assess the evolution of contamination levels.
