Five river beaches in the Braga district have bathing not advised due to microbiological contamination. This information was made public by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA).
The affected river beaches are spread throughout the Braga district, which includes municipalities such as Amares, Terras de Bouro, Vieira do Minho, Póvoa de Lanhoso, and Celorico de Basto, among others. These recreational areas are popular during the bathing season.
The microbiological contamination referenced by the APA indicates the presence of bacteria or other microorganisms that may pose health risks to swimmers. The recommendation is that users avoid contact with the water at these river beaches until the situation is resolved.
The authorities are monitoring the water quality at these locations, hoping that the analysis results will allow the lifting of bathing restrictions soon, provided contamination levels decrease to safe values.
