The GNR issued an alert for scams known as "fake accidents," a fraudulent scheme in which criminals stage accidents to obtain money from victims. Algarve appears as the region of the country with the highest number of cases recorded during the first half of this year, showing the concentration of this criminal activity in the southern zone of Portugal. This type of scam involves simulating accident situations, often through unexpected contacts or approaches in public places, with the aim of deceiving victims and extracting money or financial information. The GNR warned the population to be vigilant and suspicious of suspicious situations, especially when payments or personal data are requested urgently.
