GNR is warning about a significant increase in scams involving the simulation of road accidents in Portugal. Only in the first six months of 2026, 30 complaints were registered related to this type of fraudulent scheme.
These scams have already caused total losses of 72,540 euros. The method used by the scammers consists of convincing the driver that they caused an accident, even when this did not happen, demanding immediate payment afterwards to avoid supposed consequences.
GNR decided to issue this public warning precisely to prevent citizens against this type of scam, hoping to reduce the number of victims of this fraudulent scheme on Portuguese roads.
