The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) approved the deployment of federal forces to Piauí and four other states during the 2026 elections. The measure aims to guarantee security and public order during the electoral process.
In addition to Piauí, municipalities in Tocantins, Ceará, Acre, and Rio de Janeiro will be covered. The security reinforcement will be applied in the first round of the October elections.
The TSE's decision meets the need to guarantee the integrity of the electoral process in these localities, which were identified as areas that need reinforced security during the voting and vote-counting period.
The federal forces should work in partnership with local police to ensure that voters can cast their ballots without interference and that the election results reflect the will of the population in these states.
