ADN Madeira considered that the possible placement of more properties on the market by foreign owners could contribute to relieving housing pressure in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The party's position comes in response to a news report by RTP Madeira that reported foreign owners leaving the region and putting properties up for sale.
According to RTP Madeira, geopolitical instability was one of the factors cited by foreign owners to justify their departure from the region. This situation could represent an opportunity to increase the housing supply in the Madeiran market.
However, ADN Madeira warned that a housing policy cannot depend on international instability to guarantee price moderation. The party argued that structural measures that do not depend on external and unpredictable factors should be implemented to solve the housing problem in Madeira.
ADN Madeira's position thus comes as a warning for the need for sustainable and autonomous housing policies, which are not held hostage by international geopolitical conditions that can be volatile and unpredictable.
