Alert situation in Almada due to water supply failures ends on Monday

Correio da Manhã28 August 2026 at 12:54

The Municipal Water and Sewage Services of Almada (SMAS) announced that the alert situation caused by water supply failures will end next Monday. The decision comes after reservoir levels have remained above 70%, indicating a recovery of available water resources.

During the alert period, contingency measures were implemented to manage the water shortage in the region. The emergency situation was declared after problems in the supply system affected several areas of the municipality of Almada.

The SMAS of Almada continuously monitored reservoir levels over the past few weeks. Maintaining levels above 70% was decisive in the decision to end the alert.

The municipality of Almada, located on the south bank of the Tagus River, has faced significant challenges regarding water supply, particularly during periods of drought or when technical failures occur in the distribution system.
