The Guarda Nacional Republicana, through the Aveiro Coastal Control Sub-Detachment, seized 4,100 kilos of common clams in the municipality of Estarreja. The operation aimed to inspect compliance with the rules for the capture, transport and storage of live bivalve mollusks.

During the action, the military personnel detected a heavy goods vehicle that was transporting the mollusks without respecting the minimum regulatory size for commercialization, established at 25 millimeters. The company owning the vehicle was identified, against which a contravention notice was drawn up.

The fine applied can reach 37,500 euros. After the seizure, the bivalves were taken to the Aveiro fish market, where they were subjected to hygiene-sanitary inspection before being returned to their natural habitat.
