In broad daylight: Necklace with 673 diamonds and valued at four million euros stolen from museum in Vienna

SAPO Notícias28 August 2026 at 12:06

A historic necklace with 673 diamonds, valued at around four million euros, was stolen this Thursday from the Natural History Museum in Vienna, Austria. The theft occurred in broad daylight, during the museum's opening hours.

The necklace was created for an Egyptian royal family wedding, which gives the piece significant historical and cultural value beyond its material worth.

Austrian authorities are investigating the case, but details on how the thieves managed to carry out the theft or any potential suspects involved in the action have not yet been released.

This theft comes amid growing concern over the security of museum pieces in Europe, following other major thefts at cultural institutions across the continent.
