Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro woke up with new cancelled flights after chaos caused by an incident involving a small jet that veered off the runway. The terminal's runway was cleared around 11 PM, after being closed for nearly 7 hours. On board the aircraft that ended up in the grass area were the pilot and a crew member, who were uninjured.
The airport begins operating at 6 AM, but there are already several cancelled flights to destinations such as Brasília and primarily São Paulo. On this Thursday (27th), during the operational suspension, 71 flights were cancelled and 15 were diverted to Galeão International Airport.
Among those affected was biologist and commercial consultant Mariana Mossardeiro de Aguiar, who would take a Gol flight to Congonhas in São Paulo. Gustavo Luciano, who would travel via Gol to Guarulhos, had his flight diverted to Galeão.
At Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, the morning began with calm traffic and no queues at the check-in area, indicating that operations at the São Paulo terminal were not affected by the incident in Rio de Janeiro.
