GNR seizes over four tonnes of clams in Estarreja

SAPO Notícias28 August 2026 at 10:16

The Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) seized 4.1 tonnes of common clams in the municipality of Estarreja, district of Aveiro. The seizure occurred during a routine inspection of a heavy goods vehicle.

The authorities found that the seized clams did not comply with the minimum regulatory size established for the commercialization of the product. All 4,100 kilograms were thus considered unfit for sale.

The company responsible for the transport and commercialization of the clams was subject to a misdemeanor process. This infraction may result in fines ranging from minimum values to a maximum of 37,500 euros, according to applicable legislation.
