The Civil Police and prosecutors from the Special Action Group Against Organized Crime (Gaeco), of the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro, are investigating 20 people who were indicted and had preventive detention orders issued. The suspects are investigated on suspicion of integrating nuclei linked to the Curicica militia, in the Southwest Zone of Rio, and the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP).
Investigations and a message exchange found on a militia member's cell phone pointed to a kind of alliance between the paramilitaries and drug dealers from Vila do João, in Maré, and the Complexo da Pedreira. The pact was based on non-aggression and operational cooperation to combat rival factions, especially the Comando Vermelho (CV).
