Following the tragedy at the Elevador da Glória, plans are underway for the reopening of Lisbon's historic funiculars. The Elevador da Glória, one of the city's iconic symbols, suffered an accident that prompted a safety review of all historic funiculars.
There are already defined dates for the reopening of the funiculars. The old carriages that operated on these funiculars will be transformed into museum pieces, thereby preserving Lisbon's historical and cultural heritage.
Lisbon's historic funiculars, including the Elevador da Glória, the Elevador de Santa Justa and the Elevador da Bica, are a fundamental tourist attraction and an important part of the city's public transport. After the accident, technical assessments were carried out to ensure the safety of the funiculars before their reopening.
