Australia announced a 5 million Australian dollar package, approximately R$ 18.5 million, to help communities affected by the floods in Nepal. The Australian government will also send three humanitarian response specialists to the country and reinforce the Australian team already on the ground to assist citizens affected by the disaster.
At least 39 Australians are among the hundreds of missing, according to Foreign Minister Penny Wong. The tragedy left several communities isolated due to the destruction of roads and bridges.
The resources will be directed to response and recovery actions, including the provision of food, emergency shelters, clean water, and sanitation. Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade reported that infrastructure destruction left many areas completely isolated.
