Porto Santo Airport was inaugurated 66 years ago

The official inaugural flight of Porto Santo Airport took place on August 28, 1960. On that occasion, a TAP Douglas DC-4 Skymaster aircraft with registration CS-TDA and named "Mouzinho de Albuquerque" landed on the original 2 km runway, carrying the Portuguese government delegation of the time, led by the Minister of Communications, who at the time was José Albino Machado Vaz. This ceremony marked the official opening of an infrastructure that would become fundamental for the connectivity of the island of Porto Santo. The original runway had an extension of 2 kilometers, sized to accommodate larger aircraft at that time. Porto Santo Airport thus celebrated its 66th anniversary since its inauguration, consolidating itself over the decades as an essential element for the tourist and economic development of the island, facilitating access for residents and visitors to the Madeira archipelago.
