Presidents of Moldova, Ukraine and Romania Proclaim Pro-European Alliance

The presidents of Moldova, Maia Sandu, Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Romania, Klaus Iohannis, proclaimed a pro-European regional alliance between the three countries. The announcement was made during a trilateral summit held in a context of war in Ukraine and geopolitical tensions in the region.

The three leaders advocated for intensified cooperation in three main areas: energy, infrastructure and security. This alliance emerges as a joint response to the challenges faced by countries in the Black Sea region.

Moldova, which has a pro-European government but faces tensions with Russia in the separatist region of Transnistria, and Romania, a member of the European Union since 2007, thus strengthen their ties with Ukraine on the path towards Europe.

This trilateral summit marks a significant moment of unity between the three countries in their shared European orientation, at a time when the war in Ukraine continues to redefine the geopolitical landscape of Eastern Europe.
