Government recognizes as natural catastrophe the rural fires of Vouzela and Valpaços and mobilizes 10 million euros to restore productive potential

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Sea officially recognized as a natural disaster the rural fires that devastated several parishes in the Centro and Norte regions of mainland Portugal between July and August 2026, especially affecting the areas of Vouzela and Valpaços. The government decided to mobilize 10 million euros to support the affected farmers and restore the productive potential of the burned areas, under a specific ordinance for natural disaster situations.

Gouveia – Rescue of weakened bird of prey

The Territorial Command of Guarda, through the SEPNA of the Gouveia Detachment, collected a bird of prey of the booted eagle species that was found weakened in the industrial zone of Gouveia by a citizen. The animal was delivered to the Center for Ecology, Recovery and Surveillance of Wild Animals (CERVAS), where it will receive the necessary care for later return to its natural habitat. The GNR appeals to the population to report situations of injured or weakened wild animals through the SOS Environment and Territory Line.
