Ceuta recorded 16 sexual assaults since the beginning of the migration crisis, most against minors

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Ceuta has recorded 16 sexual assaults involving 17 victims since the beginning of the migration crisis, with 16 of the victims being women and the majority being minors, in a context of special vulnerability of migrant minors.

Carris terminated maintenance contracts with MNTC after the Elevador da Glória accident

Carris terminated all contracts with MNTC, the company responsible for maintaining the Elevador da Glória, after the accident on September 3, 2025 that caused 16 dead and 20 injured. The contract was revoked on November 4, 2025, and the maintenance needs will now be managed by Carris' internal team. A preliminary GPIAAF report had already indicated that MNTC did not have the necessary specialized technical knowledge for the maintenance of funiculars. Only the relatives of one of the 16 victims have proceeded to court, demanding compensation of 1,050,000 euros from insurer Fidelidade, after no agreement was reached. Four families have already established compensation agreements, while seven cases are under negotiation.
