In parts of the internet where young people exchange self-improvement tips, a trend related to body odor has emerged. Deodorant is out of fashion and washing less is in fashion. These so-called "olfactory influencers" promise that the right aroma will do wonders to attract a partner.
However, although humans may find smells pleasant, unpleasant, or something in between, there is no scientific evidence that we can detect and react to pheromones, let alone produce them.
Many animals communicate through pheromones, often related to sex or territory marking. The problem is what happens when seeking the same sensory mechanism in humans.
A pheromone is defined as a chemical messenger produced within the body of a member of a species, but this definition does not apply in the same way to human beings according to current science.
