Nairobi will be the host of the 2029 World Athletics Outdoor Championship, announced World Athletics on Tuesday. Kenya's capital will become the first city in Africa to host the event. The decision was made after a meeting of the entity's council in Budapest, the city that hosted the Ultimate Championship.
Nairobi won the vote against three other candidates: London, Rome and Munich. The German city of Munich was chosen to host the 2031 Championship. The selection process featured four exceptional candidacies for the two events.
The president of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, stated at a press conference that the decision was not easy due to the quality of the proposals received. He stated that the choice allows holding the World Athletics Championships in Asia, Africa and Europe in their upcoming editions.
