The Portuguese Government is closer to implementing a tax on the extraordinary profits of oil companies, with the bill proposal already in Parliament for discussion.
The decree will still have to be discussed and approved by deputies before coming into force, in a process that involves the necessary legislative approval for its implementation.
The Executive presents this measure as a "temporary and strictly proportionate financial instrument", with an "extraordinary and temporally limited" character, suggesting it will not be a permanent tax in the Portuguese tax system.
