Sons do Património This Saturday Arrive in Valongo

Jornal Novo Regional15 September 2026 at 17:57

The ninth edition of the "Sons do Património" festival kicks off on September 18, 19 and 20, 2026, covering the municipalities of Vila do Conde, Valongo and Matosinhos. Promoted by the Metropolitan Area of Porto in partnership with the 17 municipalities, the event proposes discovering the territory through music, heritage, architecture, gastronomy and cultural experiences.

In Vila do Conde, on the 18th, the guided tour "Heading to the Sea – The City that Became a Beach" takes place at 6:00 PM through the Beach Neighborhood, departing from the Church of Mercy. At 9:30 PM, the Festival Hall of the Youth Municipal Center hosts the concert by Catarina Carvalho Gomes with the project "New Songs of the Land," which crosses tradition, folk, indie, jazz and fado.

On Saturday, September 19, Valongo hosts workshops at 3:00 PM at the Trilobite and Geological Heritage House and at Democracy Square, where participants can learn about and recreate fossils and trilobites through clay and painting. At 9:30 PM, the Paulo Barros Quarteto performs at the newly inaugurated Democracy Square, establishing a connection between contemporary music and Valongo's geological memory.

On Sunday, September 20, Matosinhos proposes free visits to the Museu Quinta de Santiago and the exhibition "Menus and Table Arts in the Belle Époque" between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, the exhibition "Facade" by Alexandra Rafael is inaugurated, followed at 6:00 PM by the concert by Luísa Sobral in the museum garden.

Why this matters

Readers in the Vale do Sousa region and Metropolitan Area of Porto have access to three days of free cultural activities that combine live music, workshops and guided tours to discover local heritage in an immersive way. In Valongo, families can participate in workshops on paleontology and trilobites, symbols of local geological heritage, followed by a free concert in the evening.
