The PSI closed the session in positive territory, contradicting the negative trend of the other European markets, rising 0.71% to 9,446.63 points. Among the positive highlights on the Lisbon Stock Exchange were Mota-Engil, which gained 2.00% to 4.896 euros, Galp Energia with an appreciation of 1.95% to 21.97 euros, Teixeira Duarte which rose 1.68%, Altri with 1.51% gains and REN with 1.31% gains. On the negative side, Ibersol fell 1.92% and BCP gave up 0.08%.
The overwhelming majority of listed companies in Lisbon closed higher, with the energy sector leading the gains, in line with the rise in oil prices. This dynamic allowed the Portuguese market to operate in counter-cycle relative to Europe, where the Euro Stoxx 600 fell 0.29% and the Euro Stoxx 50 declined 0.38%.
Oil prices rose significantly again, with WTI increasing 3.01% to $104.44 and Brent advancing 2.07% to $107.87. This escalation was driven by the worsening of tensions in the Middle East, which reactivated fears of renewed inflationary pressures at a particularly sensitive time for central banks.
The uncertainty scenario complicates monetary policy decisions, especially because the United States Federal Reserve is set to speak the following day about its strategy. MTrader analysts highlighted that the PSI managed to escape the bad European mood, with the majority of its listed companies in the green, on a day marked by rising oil and sovereign debt yields.
