The young adult mystery novel "The Mystery of the Five-Star" by Marcos Rey will get a film adaptation directed by Vera Egito and starring Marina Ruy Barbosa and João Guilherme. The information was initially disclosed by Variety.
The film will be produced by Boutique Filmes, in co-production with Globo Filmes, Ukbar Filmes and Sony Pictures International. Screenwriter Bruno Passeri, responsible for the series "Crime DNA", will be in charge of adapting Rey's work for the screen.
Filming is expected to take place at the end of 2026, with a premiere planned for film festivals in 2027.
Originally published in 1981 in the iconic Vaga-Lume Collection, the book follows Leo, played by João Guilherme, a bellhop who finds himself involved in a murder that occurred at the luxurious Emperor Park Hotel.
