A doctor was convicted for a fraud scheme against ADSE that involved approximately half a million euros in fraudulent fees. The sentence was handed down recently, but the health professional managed to escape an effective prison sentence.
The scheme consisted of creating fictitious fees related to the monitoring of chemotherapy treatments. According to available information, the doctor issued false monitoring declarations to justify the payments from ADSE.
In total, 32 beneficiaries were used as a pretense to support the fraudulent claims. Through this method, the doctor managed to obtain improper payments from the health system that serves Portuguese public servants.
Despite the conviction, the court decided not to impose effective prison time on the doctor, opting for alternatives that allow the convicted person to avoid incarceration. The case raises questions about the control and oversight mechanisms of ADSE reimbursements.
