Unidos de Vila Isabel backed down from the decision to bring to Sapucaí in 2027 the merger of two samba-enredos. The school had announced in the early hours of last Saturday that it would combine two compositions for next year's parade, but the decision generated controversy. After a meeting held on Monday between the association's management, carnival designers and other members of the carnival team, it was decided that only the work by Martinho da Vila, Evandro Bocão and André Diniz will represent the school at next year's carnival.
The merger announced at the event with a packed quad planned that the majority of the samba would be composed by the work of Martinho da Vila's partnership, but the main chorus would come from the samba by Paulo César Feital, Gustavinho Oliveira, Thales Nunes, Danilo Garcia, Júlio Alves, Marcelo Martins and Gabriel Simões. This stitching together of the two compositions is what caused the controversy among revelers and was responsible for the school's change of mind.
With the backing down, the school undid the combination and will keep only Martinho da Vila's samba-enredo as the sole winning composition for the 2027 carnival. The decision was made after the meeting between the blue and white association's managers to reassess the strategy that had been presented to the public over the weekend.
