Minister Kassio Nunes Marques, president of the Superior Electoral Court, asked not to participate in the voting of a judgment after investigations indicated that his son Kevin de Carvalho Marques would have exchanged messages with banker Daniel Vorcaro, indicating a payment of R$ 500 thousand to him.
Nunes Marques publicly declared that he never exchanged messages with Vorcaro or his son. Even so, for fear that the case could reach the electoral process, he chose to declare himself suspect and asked not to participate in the voting.
The decision occurs amid strong wear of the Federal Supreme Court in public opinion. According to a Quaest poll released this Monday, 56% of Brazilians do not trust the STF, an increase from the 46% recorded in August.
In São Paulo, a pot-banging protest was recorded demanding the removal of authorities, demonstrating the growing discomfort of the population with the situation.
