The Supreme Federal Court (STF) holds an extraordinary session to judge the messages sent by banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, on Tuesday. The trial follows a Federal Police (PF) report delivered to Minister André Mendonça indicating that Moraes had proximity to Vorcaro.
The PF report cross-referenced messages, Vorcaro's phone records, and documents to verify conversations between the Banco Master owner and the STF minister. The case represents an unprecedented crisis in the court's history.
Alexandre de Moraes was appointed to the STF in February 2017 by former President Michel Temer. At that time, he held the position of Minister of Justice and Public Security of São Paulo. Moraes filled the seat that belonged to Teori Zavascki, who died in January 2017 after a plane crash in Rio de Janeiro.
Temer assessed that Moraes would meet the concerns of politicians, who wanted someone for the position not only with a legal profile. The STF's extraordinary session now seeks to evaluate the accusations about the relationship between the minister and banker Daniel Vorcaro.
