PS-M met this Tuesday with the fishermen of Caniçal to demand a stable legislative solution that preserves the local uses of fishing activity. The president of PS-M, Célia Pessegueiro, criticized the Regional Government following the recent episodes of seizure of dried fish for personal consumption, carried out by the Maritime Authority.
Célia Pessegueiro called on the Regional Government to establish legal exceptions that protect both fishermen and local traditions. The PS-M leader considered it urgent to put an end to the atmosphere of distrust that has been created around sea professionals following these seizures.
The meeting with the fishermen of Caniçal comes at a time of tension between the inspection of authorities and the professionals who practice fishing for their own consumption. PS-M argues that it is necessary to find a balance between regulation and the preservation of traditional fishing practices in the region.
