The Supreme Federal Court (STF) began the trial regarding the investigation involving alleged conversations between Justice Alexandre de Moraes and former banker Daniel Vorcaro. The session was opened by Justice Edson Fachin, who presided over the court on that occasion.
The trial follows a request made by Justice André Mendonça, who requested the analysis of information obtained by the Federal Police from Vorcaro's cell phone. Vorcaro's defense had filed a habeas corpus challenging the legality of the phone interceptions that allegedly captured supposed conversations between him and Moraes.
The investigation is related to the operation that targeted the so-called "financial core" of a group allegedly linked to suspicious financial movements. Vorcaro is the founder of Banco Santos and was under investigation for alleged irregularities in financial transactions.
The case generated controversy because the alleged conversations between the STF justice and the former banker were obtained during the execution of judicial decisions in investigations that were not directly related to this alleged communication. Vorcaro's defense argues that there was an overreach of the precautionary measures judicially authorized.
