Acting Governor Ricardo Couto published a decree this Tuesday eliminating 1,050 vacant commissioned positions in the structure of the Executive Branch of Rio de Janeiro. The measure is part of a survey that identified a set of low financial value positions that have been accumulating over previous administrations.
According to the decree, many of these positions emerged when larger structures were subdivided into lower-value positions, giving rise to the so-called "puxadinhos" (added-on) positions. There were functions with symbolic remuneration, such as only R$ 20.
Despite the symbolic values, the state is obligated to pay at least a minimum wage of R$ 1,621.00 per occupied position, which automatically raised the cost for the Executive Branch. The decree covers positions distributed across different organs and entities of the state administration.
The measure does not represent dismissal of employees or occupants of positions currently filled, as it aims only to eliminate from the structure positions that are not in use and represented an unnecessary cost for the state.
