Brazilians feel that today is the worst of days at the Federal Supreme Court (STF). However, the article argues that the worst moment has already passed, when the country did not have the information it currently possesses and Justices Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça had powers to act against each other.
The justices used the information they had, including reports and case reports for which they were responsible, to act against each other. This was considered the most critical moment for the institution.
When Justice Luiz Edson Fachin assumed the powers of the presidency and took over the case report that will be judged today, the situation became clearer. The case in question will decide whether Justice Alexandre de Moraes should be investigated for 52 messages allegedly exchanged.
