Mais Semanário15 September 2026 at 12:48

The Mindelo Sports Gymnasium hosted over 300 athletes at the second edition of the Vila do Conde International Handball Tournament, organized by GDC Azurara. Over two days, the public filled the stands to watch 18 games between Portuguese and Spanish teams in the Under12, Under14, Under16 and Senior categories.

The tournament featured victories for Atletic Novas in Under14, CALE in Under16 and AC Lusitanos in the senior competition. In individual highlights, Simão Rodrigues from Póvoa AC was the top scorer in Under14, João Rebelo from CALE led the table in Under16 with 27 goals and Masin Martinez from Atletic Novas finished as top scorer in the senior category, with 17 goals.

The debut of Azurara's new equipment also marked the event, as part of the club's image renewal. The organization counted on institutional support from the Vila do Conde City Council, Azurara Parish Council and various sports and educational entities, in addition to 12 commercial partners.

Why this matters

The tournament brings direct impact to the local community of Vila do Conde by promoting youth sports in various age groups and dynamizing Mindelo's sports facilities. The participation of over 300 athletes from Portugal and Spain reinforces the international projection of the event and benefits the local partner businesses and entities involved in the organization.
