Valor, Globo e CBN promote debate with economic spokespeople of presidential candidates; follow along

oglobo15 September 2026 at 12:00

The media outlets Valor, O Globo and CBN hold this Tuesday (15th) a debate among the economic spokespeople of the main candidates for President of the Republic. The event will be held at CBN studios, from 2 PM to 4 PM, and will be broadcast simultaneously on Valor's website and on the YouTube channels of all three outlets.

The economic spokespeople of the six best-placed candidates in the most recent Quaest poll were invited to participate: Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT),Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), Augusto Cury (Avante), Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), Renan Santos (Missão) and Romeu Zema (Novo).

The debate will focus on five main themes: public accounts, inflation and interest rates, tax reform, productivity and the impact on the Brazilian economy of tariffs imposed by the United States. The discussion of these topics aims to allow voters to better understand the economic agenda of each presidential candidate.

Why this matters

The Brazilian voter following the 2026 elections will have the opportunity to learn about the economic proposals of the main presidential candidates in a direct and comparative format. The open broadcast allows citizens to evaluate the different views on issues that directly affect their wallets, such as inflation, interest rates and taxes. The event follows a trend of economic debates held by major media outlets, complementing traditional campaign coverage.

Economic advisor to the President advises IL to seek convergences with Seguro

Economist Luís Aguiar-Conraria, economic advisor to the President of the Republic, advised the Liberal Initiative to seek points of convergence with António José Seguro, considering that the liberals, being a small party, need allies and may have presidential support for their proposals for economic growth and business concentration. In the debate on tax reform in Porto, Aguiar-Conraria considered that Portuguese taxation is not particularly high when compared internationally, but has the major flaw of being "stupidly complex," defending the elimination of differentiated rates and the reduction of tax progressivity. Economist Pedro Brinca also criticized fiscal complexity and measures such as zero VAT on food baskets and VAT reduction on fuels, warning that these may end up benefiting distribution and higher incomes rather than families in need.

Rio creates policy to cross-reference data and find children outside the public network

The City of Rio launched this Tuesday the Integrated Municipal Policy for Early Childhood (PMIPIC), which aims to place children up to 6 years old at the center of decisions across different areas of the municipal administration. The decree creates a new governance structure, under the responsibility of the Municipal Civil House, integrating approximately 18 agencies around actions in health, education, social assistance, housing, food, mobility and the right to the city. The experience began being tested in April in 14 neighborhoods in the Madureira region, in the North Zone, where the monitoring of 6,627 children and pregnant women led, in 30 days, to the regularization of 619 people with pending issues in public services.

Church linked to Vorcaro's brother-in-law moved R$ 57 million in one year, COAF points out

COAF documents forwarded to the Supreme Federal Court in the Banco Master case investigations reveal that the Lagoinha Belvedere Church, linked to Fabiano Zettel, Vorcaro's brother-in-law, moved more than R$ 57 million between December 2024 and December 2025, a value far exceeding the presumed annual revenue of R$ 950 thousand. Banco do Brasil reported the operations to COAF due to this discrepancy. Most of the payments were destined for construction, engineering, metal structures, and event production companies. Zettel alone transferred approximately R$ 19 million in 26 operations to the church. Minister André Mendonça lifted the secrecy from the financial movements.
