Japan is considering significantly increasing its Defense spending to 3.5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a substantially higher value than the country's current levels of military investment.
Analysts warn that achieving this goal would imply doubling the current Defense budget, reaching 24 trillion yen, which is equivalent to approximately 150 billion euros.
This change represents one of the largest transformations in Japanese Defense policy in recent decades, in a context of growing geopolitical instability in the Asia-Pacific region.
The plan, if it moves forward, would position Japan among the countries with the highest Defense effort as a percentage of GDP, approaching the levels practiced by NATO members.
