The Public Ministry opened an inquiry to investigate the director of the Judicial Police, Carlos Cabreiro, and other executives of the institution, due to suspected false statements and abuse of power. The investigation originated from a complaint related to the Football Leaks case.
At issue are alleged recordings whose existence was denied in court. These suspicions arose in the context of investigations surrounding the Football Leaks case, which involved the massive revelation of documents related to tax evasion and corruption in football.
Carlos Cabreiro, as director of the PJ, is one of those targeted by the inquiry. The investigation aims to clarify whether false statements were made by responsible parties of the Judicial Police and any potential abuse of power in the exercise of their duties.
