The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) does not know how many politicians and public office holders are required to submit income declarations. This situation was revealed in a response to a request submitted by the Left Bloc.
The left-wing party questioned the Ministry of Finance about the number of people covered by the income declaration requirement, receiving a response that the AT does not have this information.
The Left Bloc has been insisting on transparency regarding the income of public officials, considering this a matter of public interest.
The lack of data from the Tax Authority raises questions about the capacity for oversight and control of income declarations from government officials and other public office holders in Portugal.
