The National Monetary Council (CMN) decided to increase by R$ 2 billion the annual authorized credit limit for all federative units of the country. The measure covers both states and municipalities and will take effect starting in 2026.
Piauí is among the states that will benefit from the credit limit increase. The state, like the others in the country, will have more flexibility for credit operations following the decision.
The elevation of the credit limit does not represent a new federal expense. It is an expansion of the debt capacity of the federative units within the rules already established by the central government.
