Open Cosmos, a European company specializing in satellite manufacturing founded in 2015, announced a 300 million euro funding round. This investment will enable the company to optimize its production capacity and expand its intelligence and real-time connectivity services from space. The company achieved five consecutive years of profitable revenues and executed successful orbital missions for European governments and major corporations in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
The funding round was led by investors Lightrock and ETF Partners, with participation from Institut Català de Finances (ICF), Entrepreneurs First and various international pension funds. With this capital, Open Cosmos plans to increase its production to manufacture one satellite per day across its four factories spread across Europe, expanding its ConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation and DataCosmos platforms to offer more agile Earth observation services.
The company developed advanced technologies that allow its satellites to collaborate and connect with each other, reducing the delivery time of critical information from 48 hours to just 30 minutes. A practical example of this capability is the detection of forest fires by a satellite, which can immediately communicate the information to emergency services, even in areas without internet connection.
Open Cosmos currently has approximately 400 employees in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal and Greece. Founder and CEO Rafel Jordà Siquier emphasized that the intelligence generated by these technologies is fundamental for the progress of governments and companies in a world where real-time information becomes an indispensable resource. With this significant funding, the company is positioned to play a central role in the emerging European space sector.
