The Ribeiro Sanches School Grouping (AERS) celebrated the start of the 2026-2027 school year on September 14, with two separate sessions: one at the School Centre for Pre-school and 1st Cycle, and another at the Grouping's headquarters for the Second Cycle to Secondary Education. The ceremonies included musical performances by the Philharmonic Band of Aldeia de João Pires and students from the Music Generation School, as well as the awarding of merit and value diplomas to students from the previous year.
AERS currently has 395 students enrolled, representing an increase of 36 students compared to the previous school year, when 359 students were enrolled. The grouping's data shows an improvement in educational success across most grade levels, even exceeding the goals set in the educational project.
The Director of AERS, Paula Vaz, stated that the new school year represents a fresh start, highlighting as essential pillars a demanding school, an inclusive school, and one that values knowledge, citizenship, creativity, culture, sport, science, and art. The President of the Penamacor Municipal Council, José Miguel Oliveira, recalled that everyone has a role to play in the school community, emphasizing the importance of parents and guardians being present in their children's lives and in school life.
The ceremonies were attended by the Presidents of the Municipal Council and the Municipal Assembly of Penamacor, José Miguel Oliveira and Valéria Gonçalves, Vice-President Pedro Silveiro, and Councillor Guida Leal. The local leader thanked all those who contribute annually to improving the educational success of AERS, expressing hope for the future of the municipality's young people.
