Heavy vehicles with no destination to Porto or Vila Nova de Gaia are prohibited from circulating on the Inner Circular Road (VCI). The measure was implemented to ease traffic in one of the most congested areas of the Porto metropolitan region.
The president of the Porto City Council acknowledges that the ban will not completely solve the traffic problems on the VCI, but argues that it can contribute to a significant improvement in the circulation conditions on that road.
As an alternative to the VCI, truck drivers can use the A41 motorway, which is toll-free. This option aims to make life easier for heavy vehicle drivers who only need to cross the region without having the two cities as their destination.
