The Portuguese trans singer Patrícia Ribeiro, 44, relates in her biography, to be released soon, details of the six years she spent in prison, between 2016 and 2022, serving a sentence for extortion. She says she still deals today with the marks left by the cell and that she had to undergo new CO2 laser sessions on her legs to improve scars from an episode of self-harm she experienced during her time in prison.
According to Patrícia, the self-harm episode happened after a series of situations that left her emotionally fragile. She says it all started with a hunger strike, motivated by issues related to the court case, the increase in her sentence, and discrimination situations that, according to her, she faced inside the prison.
Patrícia describes the moment of the self-harm saying: "I had an episode of self-harm in prison because of the many injustices I experienced there. It was a moment when I really couldn't take it anymore and snapped." The singer decided to write the book as a way to record and report the experiences she lived during the time she was incarcerated.
