The Funchal passenger liner is going to auction with a minimum value of 802 thousand euros. This historic ship, considered a crown jewel of the Portuguese Merchant Marine, represents a milestone in the country's naval history.
The boat was launched in 1961, having dedicated more than five decades to maritime service. During its long career, it became one of the most iconic passenger liners to operate under the Portuguese flag.
The last voyage of the Funchal passenger liner took place on January 2, 2015, marking the end of an era for this traditional passenger ship. Its retirement left a void in the national merchant fleet.
Now, the ship is in poor condition, described as scrap metal, and will be auctioned at the base value of 802 thousand euros.
