A global study on civil liberties and expression places Portugal among the European countries with the greatest democratic setbacks since 2020. The report indicates that Portugal came only behind Russia and Georgia in the regression ranking in Europe.
According to the study's data, democracy regressed in 57% of the world's countries, representing a significant deterioration in the global democratic state. Furthermore, in 81% of the analyzed countries, democracy remained stagnant, without significant advances or retreats.
