Coimbra's new mobility model, structured around the Mondego Metrobus System (SMM), represents a profound paradigm shift in urban space management. The goal is to transition from a model focused on individual cars to a city that prioritizes pedestrians, soft mobility modes and high-capacity electric public transport, complemented by the SMTUC network.
The project aims to return the city to the people, fundamentally transforming how citizens move around and use public space. Coimbra is thus betting on a more sustainable approach centered on the needs of its inhabitants.
The Mondego Metrobus System constitutes the central pillar of this transformation, representing a significant investment in electric mobility and urban requalification of the city. This change reflects a growing trend in European cities to rethink the balance between different modes of transport.
