The businessman Carlos Seabra Suarez, 74 years old, known as the "Gas King," became the largest individual donor of the 2026 elections according to the first partial financial report submitted to the Electoral Court. He made donations totaling R$ 5.7 million, the most significant amount recorded among all individual donors to date.
Unlike what one might expect, Suarez did not allocate any value directly to candidates. All the money was distributed among the national leaderships of six political parties: PSD, PP, União Brasil, MDB, PSDB and PSB.
The distribution of resources was made almost equally. Five parties received R$ 1 million each — PSD, PP, União Brasil, MDB and PSDB — while PSB received R$ 700 thousand, completing the total of R$ 5.7 million donated.
Despite being a figure difficult to find on the internet, Suarez is known behind the scenes of big business and political maneuvering. In 2024, he had already made donations worth approximately R$ 1.2 million in electoral campaigns, demonstrating a history of participation in political financing.
